It’s the year 2020. Where the fuck did the time go? Well old habits die old, and old ninjas simply don’t die. This year has bought a lot of messed up shit into the world, and guess what? That includes us. Just when you thought things couldn’t be any further FUBAR Injured Ninja decide to release their first record since 2011 – a five track EP called “TOTAL IMPACT! MAXXX DAMAGE!” and its coming out 27 November, 2020.
Originally, Injured Ninja featured members Steven Alyian, Dominic Pearce, Jake Steele and Matthew Bairstow. With Mr. Steele still hiding out in Melbourne dropping fulltime f*cking bangers in a Rat mask, the remaining three ninjas refined their setup into a traditional power trio. Guitar. Bass. Drums. Amplifiying the raw energy that was at the core of their sound, and leaving the synthesizers behind. Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards. Also, laptops on stage are a pain the ass. Let’s keep it real, baby.
“TOTAL IMPACT! MAXXX DAMAGE!”is a furious musical f*ck- fest from the Ninja boys that starts at 110% percent with a sonic sledgehammer to the face, then quickly ramps it up to a full force Kavanaugh senate confirmation hearing pummeling that smile onto your dial with existentialist glee. Sludgy groovy ass bass sits atop violent third-degree burns drums with creamy layers of evocatively lush and harsh guitar waves, whilst Alyian’s singspeak vocals wax euphoric anticapitalist wet dreams
First single‘Erroneous Monk’(released November 6) is a feel- good onslaught of Ninja noise that expresses the collective bewilderment and disdain of becoming an augmented singularity of information and flesh as we embrace our confusing digital future. Zen. Jam. Zen-jam?
Ninja’s back and as furious as ever – and - excited to be here and be able to return to their collective roots and recreate this music that is the cathartic release that we all need right now. Scream into the void and let it scream back to you.
